En effet, apr\u00e8s le tremblement de terre de 2011 suivi de l\u2019accident nucl\u00e9aire \u00e0 la centrale nucl\u00e9aire de Fukushima Daiichi, Clement a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le majeur, pas seulement dans la reconstruction des zone sinistr\u00e9es par l\u2019accident, mais aussi dans la promotion de la compr\u00e9hension mutuelle et des relations amicales entre le Japon et le Canada.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class='content-column two_third last_column'><div style=\"padding-left:10px;\"><p>On March 12, 2019, Kimihiro Ishikane, ambassador of Japan to Canada, conferred the Ambassador\u2019s Award upon Christopher Clement, scientific secretary of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP).<\/p>\n<p>Since the Great East Japan Earthquake and the ensuing nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant on March 11, 2011, Clement has been contributing to the organization of a series of dialogue seminars with the people of Fukushima to deepen their understanding of radiological protection. His role is significant not only for the reconstruction of disaster-affected areas, but also for the promotion of mutual understanding and friendly relations between Japan and Canada. Clement was given the Ambassador\u2019s Award for this distinguished service.<\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of the ceremony, participants watched a short video entitled <a href=\"https:\/\/nettv.gov-online.go.jp\/eng\/prg\/prg6154.html?nt=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fukushima Dreams and Beyond<\/a>, which shows the current situation of disaster-affected areas. After the earthquake, tsunami, and TEPCO Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident in March 2011, Fukushima and other disaster-affected areas underwent a period of recovery. The region now boasts the world\u2019s most stringent food safety checks. The video highlights the resilience of the people who live there and their renewed sense of hope.<\/p>\n<p>Following the video, Ambassador Ishikane extended his deepest regards to Clement, who has played a significant role in the reconstruction of the area as an expert on radiological protection. The presentation also included congratulatory messages from H.E.
