The purpose of the designation is to ensure that a regulator, employer, or member of the public can have confidence in the qualifications of a RRSP with the CRPA(R) credential. Individuals that meet the educational and experience requirements, demonstrate competence through the completion of a written examination that is administered by CRPA. Retaining the designation requires maintenance of CRPA membership, payment of a registration maintenance fee, and continuing education and professional development, which is monitored through the maintenance of registration program.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CRPA designation ensures that a radiation safety professional has a strong and demonstrated knowledge of the Canadian Regulations and their implementation across various nuclear fields, ranging from nuclear medicine to nuclear power generation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NRRPT was established in 1976 to meet the need for improved training programs and designation of RPTs. Initially, this designation was only focused on United States regulatory requirements, but it has since expanded to include Canadian regulatory requirements. This provides a pathway for Canadian RPTs to be designated and ensures RPTs have a basic understanding of the natural laws of ionizing radiation, the mechanism of radiation damage, methods of detection, and hazards assessment. The designation also ensures that RPTs remain active in the field of radiation protection and maintain technical competence through remaining acquainted with scientific, technical, and regulatory developments. Individuals that meet the educational and experience requirements may demonstrate competence through the completion of a written examination administered by the NRRPT.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NRRPT designation ensures that a radiation safety professional has a fundamental knowledge of radiation protection concepts and experience putting them into practice, thus ensuring the safety of staff, the public, and the environment.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the body representing Canada\u2019s Radiation Safety Professionals, CRPA advances the development and communication of scientific knowledge and practical means for protecting people and their environment from the harmful effects of radiation consistent with the optimal use of radiation for the benefit of society. To meet this objective, CRPA promotes educational opportunities, the development of professional standards, and other national and international societies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWith Canada being at the forefront of expanding nuclear technologies, the need for more qualified radiation safety professionals has never been greater,\u201d says CRPA President Elect Josip Zic. Whether we are building Canada\u2019s first small modular reactor (SMR), refurbishing nuclear power plants and planning new nuclear power plants, or leading the world in the research, development and production of radioisotopes, there is a shortage of qualified RPTs in Canada. For some projects, RPTs from outside Canada are still being imported to meet demand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under this MoU, our organizations will review how existing registrations align and meet with nuclear technology users to promote the designations and see how they can be best utilized to support the expanding use of nuclear technologies in Canada.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CRPA members interested in taking part in this initiative can reach out to the <a href=\"mailto:secretariat@crpa-acrp.org\">CRPA Secretariate<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"resume\" style=\"padding: 8px 5px 5px 5px; background-color: #eeeeee; border: #dddddd 2px solid;\">\n<h2>R\u00e9sum\u00e9<\/h2>\n<div>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00c0 titre d\u2019organisme repr\u00e9sentant les professionnels de la radioprotection au Canada, l\u2019ACRP fait progresser le d\u00e9veloppement et la communication des connaissances scientifiques\u00a0en promouvant les possibilit\u00e9s de formation, l\u2019\u00e9laboration de normes professionnelles et les activit\u00e9s d\u2019autres soci\u00e9t\u00e9s nationales et internationales. Il est aussi le pr\u00e9sident de SHP Nuclear Services, o\u00f9 il fournit des services-conseils en mati\u00e8re d\u2019autorisation, d\u2019\u00e9laboration de programme de radioprotection et d\u2019utilisation s\u00e9curitaire de technologies nucl\u00e9aires dans l\u2019industrie nucl\u00e9aire. Avant de se joindre \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 McMaster, Josip a travaill\u00e9 environ 14 ans \u00e0 l\u2019Ontario Power Generation comme sp\u00e9cialiste en radioprotection, comme gestionnaire de la section de radioprotection et comme gestionnaire de la radioprotection. Il est un professionnel de la radioprotection agr\u00e9\u00e9 aupr\u00e8s de l\u2019ACRP et un sp\u00e9cialiste certifi\u00e9 en radioprotection par l\u2019American Board of Health Physics.
