Sunil Choubal, CRPA’s Longtime Archivist, Retires
Tony MacKay became CRPA’s first archivist in 1986 and he served in that position until 2010, which is when Sunil Choubal took over the preservation of CRPA’s history. Sunil was made an honorary life member in 2016 in recognition of his many contributions, which included the years he had already then dedicated to being CRPA’s archivist.
For 16 years, Sunil preserved CRPA’s history, kept it alive, lugged part of it around in a (very heavy) suitcase, and put it on display at nearly every conference. He safeguarded the association’s history in the form of mementos, photographs, documents, and stories—lots and lots of stories!
Sunil was presented with a plaque commemorating his long service as archivist at the CRPA-CARST Symposium on Radon and Radiation Protection in Saskatoon on May 29, 2026. On behalf of CRPA members and the board of directors, we sincerely thank Sunil for his dedication and welcome Debbie Frattinger as CRPA’s new archivist.
Sue Singer
Sue SingerSue has been the CRPA secretariat since April 2015, just before the Winnipeg conference. With an extensive background in computer programming, bookkeeping, and administrative work, Sue started her own business in 2013, focusing on administrative and bookkeeping services for non-profit associations. At CRPA, Sue has enjoyed her work and learning about radiation protection (including a few new acronyms), the people she has had the pleasure of meeting and working with, and having opportunities to travel across Canada. She shares the CRPA office in Carleton Place, ON, with her cats, Gamma, Beta, and Alara.
